Sydney Swire appears as a key character in BBC-5’s American import MILFORD-HAVEN, a radio soap opera.

Appearing as “Zelda McIntyre,” Ms. Swire cuts a wide swath through the fictitous town of Milford-Haven as the powerful head of public relations for the town, a woman who is too persuasive to ignore, too unscrupulous to trust, and too clever to outwit,– all in all a woman the town loves to hate.

With her distinctive voice, Ms. Swire has enjoyed a full career in all aspects of voice work. She was in such demand that she dubbed 75 foreign films into English, appearing most notably as the voice of “Natasha” in “War And Peace,” and as the Telegraphist in “Closely Watched Trains.”

In one of the only radio dramas to be produced in America over the past decade, Sydney was heard as a regular in the acclaimed Sears Radio Theatre in the early 1980s.

American television audiences remember her as “Fran Baker” in “Family Reunion” with Bette Davis, as “Millicent Princey” in “Tales Of The Unexpected,” and perhaps most memorably as “Eleanor” in the CBS series “Beacon Hill,” America’s answer to the beloved British series “Upstairs/Downstairs.”

Having received her professional training at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, Sydney will delight BBC audiences, who will take pleasure in trying to discover which other characters she performs. On stage, Sydney performed in “Too True to be Good” with Jean Marsh (creator of “Upstairs/Downstairs”) and in “A Taste of Honey” with Estelle Parsons.

As a writer, Sydney was for several years the theatre critic for the Larchmont Chronicle, one of the largest regional newspapers in Los Angeles.
